An obsessive amateur photographer for thirty odd years, mainly interested in landscape and nature photography but dabbling in some urban photography more recently. Favourite places: Tasmania, the Snowy Mountains and Central Australia; the Himalayas; the American High Plains and Rocky Mountains. Current Camera: Sony A700 — a beautiful thing! Lenses: Carl Zeiss 16-80 & Tamron 70-300. Previous cameras: Nikon D70 and Olympus OM2. (The OM died and the D70 was appropriated by my son.) PS. Just acquired a Sigma 10-20mm.

Great shot Jess — its easy to take good photos of majestic landscapes and the like but capturing the mystery and beauty of the mundane takes real creativity. LOVE this post!
Thanks so much, Harry, I'm pleased I was able to do that with this shot :D

Superb photojournalistic reportage Thomas, and a heartfelt tribute to these brave firefighters. #1 and #4 are especially graphic.
You are so kind . It's an honour for me your words :-)

LastFrontier I guess you have to start young on the pup, feed lots of treats, and enjoy tools.
Thanks, Harry.

LastFrontier Harry, I was at some sight, Natalies, I think, and read your comment about wishing you could read French. Google offers this:

Isn't perfect, of course, and misses nuances, but sometimes it helps. -Jan

Great to see these old shots Rich — I especially like #4, #5 and #7. I am reminded of several very hot climbs up the Castle! (Did you scan these off prints?)
Thanks Harry. They were scanned off negatives which were very dirty - had to do a lot with PS to get rid of hairs etc.

These give a very graphic picture of the situation and the fire-fighting efforts. Really well done Janie. Glad they got things under control. Those fires sure have been raging for a long time over there. (Love the way you got the moon in #11.)
Thanks Harry, I always appreciate your kind words. Haven't had much time to blog lately but this was a must post!

Is there no end to the magnificent flowers you seem to have all around you over there patty? great series (I think I remember that song too)
Thanks Harry, there really are some great flowers now. I've always been a Taylor Dayne fan, she has a rich husky voice. ; )
