Christchurch - New Zealand’s first city - turned 150 years old and thousands of people were invited to its birthday party on 29 July 2006 in Cathedral Square. Christchurch is the first city of New Zealand and it has kept on being the first city. We had the first woman MP, the first public works programme and the first affordable housing.
