Christchurch New Zealand 150th Birthday 2006
2007.10.04
Happy Birthday Christchurch!
Christchurch - New Zealand’s first city - turned 150 years old and thousands of people were invited to its birthday party on 29 July 2006 in Cathedral Square.
Christchurch is the first city of New Zealand and it has kept on being the first city. We had the first woman MP, the first public works programme and the first affordable housing.

As you travelled around Christchurch city, you would see lots of red and black ribbon - strong Canterbury colours ‘threading’ together the jigsaw of historic points. Like other Canterburians who would like to take a piece of red & black ribbon as a memorial at the end of the celebration week, Ellen did "steal" a ribbon from a tree on Avon riverbank.
Did you taste a slice of 150 metres of Carrot Cake?
