4 international volunteers teamed up to clean up Christchurch Avon riverbank on 18 October 2003.

“Everyone is part of eco-friendly Christchurch. We aim to keep Avon riverbank clean and beautiful, and to raise the public awareness of what the individual can do to reduce litter.” Local event co-ordinator, Ellen Yule (director of 2Ways Company Limited, volunteer of Christchurch Citizens Advice Bureau) said.

A British migrant Wendy did give a good example to her 10-year-old daughter in environmental conservation through cleaning up the local riverbank together. Bo Chen, a Chinese architect, studying in an English language college in Christchurch, participated in the event because he believes the individual may think globally and act locally.
