Neighbourhood Week is a week dedicated to getting to know the people who live close to you. It normally starts the last Friday of October and ends the first Sunday of November.

'Diverse Taste of Digby Place Lunch' happened on Saturday, 3 November 2007. 14 out of 36 households (33 people) in Digby Place shared dishes of Kiwi, Maori, Fiji, Spain, China, England and Scotland. The elderly neighbours who have been living in this street for over 40 years explained the new residents the stories of Digby Pl. The kids showed the talent of learning different languages at the same time, such as Fijian, Maori, English, Spanish and Chinese. It's the first time for the residents of Digby Place to get together and know one another and have fun together.

Neighbourhood Week is the brainchild of the Christchurch Shirley/Papanui Community Board, which held the first event in 1998. It has grown to the nationwide annual community event organised by neighbours, for neighbours.
