Watching the rare Hector's Dolphins found only in New Zealand is part of New Zealand Seaweek took place on 2 to 9 March 2008. Experience the extensive local marine life of picturesque Lyttelton Harbour on a memorable two-hour wildlife cruise. As well as dolphin watching you'll engage in a spot of sightseeing and hear about the history of the area. Only 15 minutes from central Christchurch.
Apart from the organised beach walk, dolphin cruise and clean up beaches, here are some ideas to get ou started on your own private Seaweek.
* Go snorkelling or diving.
* Look after the birds nesting on beaches and in sand dune areas. Avoid driving on beaches but take care if you must. Keep your dog on a leash.
* Do not litter! Plastic and rubblish left on beaches or dropped in the sea can kill birds and marine animals if they swallow it or get entangled in it. Pick up any rubblish you see next time you are at the beach.
