Give a Hand to China Earthquake Rescue 2008-Christchurch Fundraising

The chilly wet weather could not stop Christchurch people gathering in Cathedral Square on Saturday, 24 May 2008 for a fundraising to the people who were killed in the earthquake and most importantly to the homeless, starving and suffering people who are having to rebuild their homes. The event is accompanied by video footage from Sichuan earthquake zone and followed by a candlelight memorial service.

The 2008 Sichuan earthquake, which measured at 8.0 Ms, occurred at 14:28:01on 12 May 2008 in Sichuan, China. Wenchuan, the epicenter iss 80 kilometres west-northwest of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan(1,500 km away from Beijing). Official figures state that 87,000 are confirmed dead. It was the deadliest and strongest earthquake to hit China since the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, which killed at least 240,000 people.
