You got peanut butter on my mouse!

Okay, there's a story behind this one...

You see, lately, the cats have been bringing us dead mice. ...this would be troublesome (they're indoor only cats), except we have seen NO evidence of rodents in the house... we suspected they might be coming IN a hole, and not actually living in the house...

But just in case, I bought this little 'humane trap'. The way it works, the mouse slips into the one-way door to get the bait (peanut butter) and then cannot get out. You can then release it someplace away from the house. :) I set it up where I thought they were coming in... but no luck. Not ONE hint of a mouse near it. :/ Fooey!

So the other day, Jim is sitting at his computer, and the cat mrrts to come up on his lap... she jumps for him, and I hear him SQUEAK and EEK, and then all heck breaks loose!

She has a LIVE (and unharmed) mouse in her mouth... and it falls to the ground, under his feet.

EEEEeeeeek!!

The cat keeps it from running away, and I go grab the trap to capture it. ...the little mouse throws himself into a bizzare death roll, like his back is broken or something- and I slip the trap's opening over him, and upend it, so he cannot get out.

The cat is FURIOUS- she gives me dirty looks all day long.

We did not appreciate her gift.

Worse, we got peanut butter on it! Hrmf.

(no worries, mr. mouse wasn't even bitten or harmed- so I snapped this pic of him, and then took him well away from the house and let him go. I have no problems with the cats killing mice, but I bear them no grudges personally. They're not bothering us, after all. No droppings or foor raids- so I'm good with letting him go. ;) heh.)

Life is never boring, is it. :)
