Blooms: Hostas & Butterfly Bush!

2007.05.24
Hostas...

Butterfly Bush...

Hosta blooms have become a rare yet exquisite treasure in the past few years for me. Until I moved to this part of Georgia, USA, I was really not aware that hostas put out blooms. Yet as you can see, they can really take your breath away.

Butterfly Bush blooms are personal favorites as well, and as you have well seen on other pages on this profile. These Butterfly blooms have an exquisite aroma that is truly thrilling, but, of course, you already know that if you own one.

ENJOY! :)

Shanti I cherish the aroma of butterfly bush because it greeted me in my grandma's garden when I was a child, also hostas are a charming sight though I can't remember seeing them before.

Carley Lovely shots! I've been trying to get a decent photo of our butterfly bush blooms....without much success. You have inspired me to go our there and try some more!

777STAN Carley, bear in mind that I am using a 200mm lens at a little distance. It would, also, work at 70mm to 125mm distance, and even a "normal" 50mm lens, if you promise yourself not to stand too close (can't be closer than a yardstick for a 50mm lens or the subject will be blurry.) I use longer lenses because I can stand further back & make photos closer up. Hope that helps! :)

pixkid Since its hotter in Georgia than my state, I think that my Hostas (been up all year) will have yet to bloom as fast. They come around mid-August. Right now we have some real pretty ones in our yard, Spiderworts, Gerbera Daisies, Impatiens, Bleeding Hearts, Pansies, and more. I don't have a butterfly bush bloom, but I do have a Moutain Loral. There are bees just storming in it!

777STAN "Hotter in Georgia"?

Dude! You said a mouthful there! I only get to be comfortable in Georgia during three (maybe four) months out of the year. Rest of the time I feel like I need to wear one of those baseball caps with the drink holders on the side loaded with Gatorade. We've got a life-size mold of me "at the ready" just inside the back door of my house, so we can pour me in to remold my body after I mow the lawn. :}

(Naw! I just made that up, but I really do "feel" like I'm melting because I sweat so much.)

Now, I will be expecting to see the Mountain Laurel (or is it Loral or maybe Dr. Suess' Lorax lives there:) on your blog page.
