Miss Pinkie Comes to Visit...

2008.04.05

Yesterday, the neighbor's cat, Pinkey (one of three,) came to pay us a visit...deciding to stay awhile. Apparently, our hospitality was agreeable with her, so she presently ensconced herself in the green of our yarden giving an entirely new meaning to the term, "sunbathing."

Hospitality is something that I would like to be good at doing, but I am very aware that it is not a natural strength of mine. That is why it is a big thrill to me anytime I "get it right!"

When people go to the trouble of visiting in my home (or my PB posts,) I consider myself to be greatly honored because it shows that someone has "gone out of his or her way" to be kind and respectful to me. (I may forget many things, but a visit to my "home" is not one of those.)

FYI - This essay is intended to be informational, not a demonstration of self-pity. I admit that my parents had a tough job with me because I am DIFFERENT and high-maintenance.

(I don't mean to be...I don't want to be...that's just part of the job description of people, like me in this world who are...DIFFERENT.)

We learn early in life to wear the title, DIFFERENT, much the same way that some kids learn to wear the title/handicap, BLINDNESS. You learn not to dread it. You learn not to ignor it. You learn to wear it and incorporate it into your life.

My parents never told me that I was high-functioning autistic. They told me that God had a very good and unique purpose for my life! Therefore, I have never believed (and do not now believe) that I am handicapped, but since "social-blindness" is a title that I have learned to incorporate into my life tapping my way through Society with my "social walking stick", I more or less cope when traversing normal paths by "knowing" where the "roadblocks" lie.

It will probably take me until I'm in my 90's before I get my PhD in SOCIAL Studies, but Hey! A lifetime of learning is just my "cup of tea." :)

Carley It looks like Miss Pinky thoroughly enjoyed her visit! I love the shot of her and Shanna....That's when it looks like she started to relax. Thanks for trusting us enough to tell your story!

sunshineand we all have many titles, label, names...all given to us from some one else looking at us from their own perspective. perspectives which keep changing as they get to know us, as they change and as we change. God however knows us inside and out and has a special name just for us...He never changes and neither does His name for us, and we will know it when we are called.
with His Love my friend.
