Some homes just make you stop and exclaim, "Wow!"
That is one of the more elegant aspects of living in "The South" region of the United States! Southern homes can at times be palatial while still being functional.
We have some very hot, very humid (i.e. muggy) summers here in South Georgia. Old style Southern homes can have as many as three sides of the house fronted by a long "wrap-around" porch that is usually as wide as a small room.
In many ways that is just what it is,...an outdoor room. The Southern sun is in many regards immobilizing during the middle of the day.
So, an outdoor "room" with a breeze that blows across, a few ceiling fans to help circulate the breeze, some Southern iced tea, a bench swing (built for three adults side-by-side,) and a midday nap (because its best to work in the fields early and late to prevent heat exhaustion)...
...all make for an existence that survives summer in The South! :)

A long porch, a tall glass of sweet tea, and a cool evening breeze. Isn't living in the South wonderful?
