Yesterday my kids had two parties to attend to celebrate birthdays for a total of four children. I took my camera to both parties and had a lot of fun practicing. I was primarily experimenting with natural light shadows at the first party since it was overcast most of the time in high noon light. The kids enjoyed tractor rides and cake.
At the second party, I was experimenting with fill flash with my on-camera pop-up flash versus setting sun light. At times the natural light was best when I could use it, but it was fun to learn to force the flash and use it to fill in the shadows when I needed it - particularly when my subject was backlit. Yes, I just learned how to force the flash on Friday night when I was reading my manual for the umpteenth time. At the second party, the kids enjoyed water fun and MORE cake.
I recognize that these pictures are not prize worthy. They are just a chronicle of my learning experience.
I also thought it would be fun to let you see some children other than mine for a change... :)
For journal purposes - this was the day that my car battery was found dead so we were an hour and a half late to the second party. Thank goodness for nice neighbors who helped me get it going again!
Happy Father's Day everyone!

what kind of camera is that, it takes great photos.
Thanks, Benjaminpokol. I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT. I've had it for two years now and prior to recently, I mainly used it as an automatic point-and-shoot. Now I'm starting to learn to use all it's bells and whistles along with a wishlist of lenses for it. It's a fantastic camera for a beginner like me to start out with. It allows you to start taking great photos at whatever level you're at but also allows room for growth. I recommend it to anyone on the hunt for a good camera. Thanks for stopping by!
I love using natural light in shots! You did a great job on this set! Cheese doodle pizza?? Haven't had that! The capture of the kids' emotions is wonderful. Those kids are so precious!
