Lightsphere Testing

2007.07.20
Mommy's favorite from the shoot.

Daddy's favorite from the shoot.

I had a little fun playing with my new Lightsphere last night. The kids were having fun playing on my bed so I thought I'd have a little fun of my own. The pictures of my daughter were the only ones that turned out nice enough to post. This whole flash unit thing is certainly going to require some practice! I'm happy with the even lighting across her face but I was hoping the Lightsphere would provide more of a catch light than those little pin dots. All in all, I think I'm going to like the Lightsphere once I have it mastered. Was it worth $50? I don't really know. One of my favorite photographers, Anne Ruthman, used one in a compelling photograph at the Gary Fong website so that is what pushed me over the edge into buying one. Perhaps I should have bought one of the cheaper ones first but this cloud version is recommended for portraits so that's why I selected it. I watched that DVD on my speedlite that I purchased the other day. It cleared up some information for me that wasn't clear to me from the manual. I think it's interesting that the more I learn, the more I realize that I don't know. Isn't that the way of life though?

PS - Hubby returned home safe and sound. Thank you for your well wishes. His plane did actually have engine trouble so I am relieved that all ended up well.

dweiskir She is adorable. You are right, the more you learn, the more you realize you don't know. I think that is the true measure of wisdom. Not in knowing what you know, but in realizing how much you have to learn.

vollenda They are very sweet. :) I think the more you read too, the more the possiblities expand with your photography and it takes you into new areas. New equipment does that for me too.

jwideman Those are very sweet photos! I'm glad to hear your husband made it back alright, especially since his plane had engine trouble (scary). And you're right--the more you know, the more you don't know. As a brand new photographer I find myself saying the same thing. A great thing to look forward to down the road is realizing all you've learned and seeing the beauty of it.
