About a week ago, Dweiskir recommended the title Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson. Just after that, Sagelike31 recommended The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby. I checked them both out on Amazon and they were both highly ranked by previous readers there too so I ordered them. I just finished reading through the Digital Photography Book (see all the smudged finger prints on the cover as evidence) and it was super! I learned so much from this book and I highly recommend it now too. It's a great book for anyone who is looking to go from auto everything to learning to take shots like a pro. The only thing I disagree with is that on the cover it says, "Also great for point and shoot camera owners." I disagree with that. You will only get a few valuable things from this book if you have a point and shoot camera. Borrow it from someone if that's the type of camera you own. If you own a DSLR, you should also own this book.
I'm about to start the Understanding Exposure book. I thought it was interesting that it was among the recommended reading list that Scott Kelby offered up at the end of his book! Good to know it has even more people recommending it.

hummm.. will have to check those out!
on my sky pics.. I usually use photoshop and go to enhance.. I usually mess with the "contrast" under lighting..... fun to play with!
Thanks for the recommendations! I plan on buying a DSLR camera in August and I really have no clue how to use it to get the best of it. I'll definitely check those books out!
I have Scott Kelby's Photoshop Elements 5 book and I really like the way he writes. Very straightforward and to the point. He's very easy to follow too. Sometime, he made me laugh too. I haven't read that book though.
