Do you Freecycle?!

2007.08.03
This is Cookie. He has nothing to do with Freecycle. He's just a neighborhood kitty who comes to visit us. He is so sweet and lovable and such a part of our lives, I thought he deserved a pic on my blog today.

In my last post, you saw that we had everything we needed to give my children their own computer except a monitor. Although they enjoyed the keyboard that first day, this project wasn't going to get very far without that last key ingredient. I had a handy source up my sleeve though - my local Freecycle group. Have you heard of this? It's just the best thing going. When you have something you no longer need or want in your home, you go post a message on your local freecycle board telling all about the item. Anyone who is interested in it replies to you and you select who you want to give it to. The catch? Everything has to be FREE. You can not charge for any item. Think of it as good kharma into the universe. Give and ye shall also receive. I've given away everything from children's clothes to furniture items. I've received in turn things like children's clothes that fit the new size, children's toys, furniture, crystal bowls, craft items and now a computer monitor. I posted a "Wanted" message about my need for a monitor and within 12 hours I probably had 6 people in my area offering me one that they no longer needed. I picked it up last night and hooked the whole system up for the munchkins. Everyone is happy.

Got stuff you want gone? Got a need for a random item? Check out your local freecycle group. You can find more information here.
