Yeah, I know it's sorta silly but I'm excited about it. For the longest time, we've just felt happy and blessed to have the house and the life we have. And I still do, but lately, I've been looking around at certain aspects of this life of ours and thinking, "that looks like it belongs to a kid in college or a young career person." I've been having the itch to make our home look like two successful grown ups live here. I'm tired of it being full of hand-me-down and make-do type items. Not that there is anything wrong with these things... they've served us well. But I am wanting our home to reflect more of us and the vision of us and our family. It sorta started with the towels lately. Our first floor powder room - the one all the guests use - is painted nicely, has nice artwork and all that but the hand towels were just lame. So... I put that on my wishlist for Christmas. My in-laws gave us these beautiful hand towels that match the paint color perfectly and are exactly what I would have picked out myself.
So... yesterday I thought about doing some comparisons with manual mode attempts. The fist picture is the picture I took in manual mode. The second is the picture I took in program mode and the third I took in fully automatic with the flash turned off. It may be hard to see the difference between them with the way photoblog displays the pictures but when scrolling through them on my screen, the Program mode looks the best. Not very inspiring to make me want to go through the hassle of learning to shoot manually! However, that is a goal of mine to be able to shoot manually when I need to and have it turn out to be a correct exposure. So... I'm going to keep trying.

Good luck with the manual mode. I'm sure you'll grow to like it. Still, I shoot in Program mode when I need to be fast and not worry. I trust my camera and it looks like you can trust yours. :)
