Art Immersion

2008.01.25
My artist in her super messy room.

This is why we like second hand clothes at my house.

She even looks like she gave herself a black eye!

Please note that she even managed to get it on the coat that was on the back of the chair!

My daughter is an artist. She has an artist soul through and through. She is always asking to create something or to play with craft supplies or just to "make a book" with drawings and several sheets of paper.

So, when we had the opportunity to sign her up for art classes, we took it. Even though we think it's crazy expensive for 6 one hour classes, we knew she'd love it so we signed her up. This is what she looked like when she came home from the second class yesterday. They'd been working with chalk pastels.

Back when she was in preschool, one of her teachers remarked that she "really immerses herself in her artwork." That was her nice way of saying that she is incapable of doing art without making a mess. Her clothes always came home with paint or marker on them. Looks like some things will never change.

FYI, all the other mother's who were picking up their children that afternoon were laughing at me. My kid was the one that got all the attention at pick up time. I suspect that will do nothing to help my effort at curbing this trend. You may be wondering why I elected to take a picture of this. It's because she has been relentlessly asking for her own art area or craft room in our house. I tried to explain to her that I was 33 before I got my own craftroom and that I'd let her come in mine if she were capable of being neat about it. None of that stopped the begging. Now I have a picture to show her WHY she can't have one the next time she asks. Please also note the state of her room behind her. Further proving my point.

hutchinsonshaun There must always be a sacrifice for art... and today it looks like the washing machine will have to suffer and take a good beating for the sake of art :) I think the walls of the London's Tate Modern await this talented artistic lady, She's doing great already!

(p.s. I always think a messy room is sign of creativity; an adventure in every corner, etc...)
