Walk around Chinatown

2012.05.05
pixel
Joined my army kakis for a photo walk around Chinatown this morning. We had a great time shooting together, not using our rifles and artillery guns this morning but with our cameras!

#1 No photography!
Yeah right........

#2 Red
Red is a strong colour in composing pictures. Upon seeing this traditional red double happiness Chinese lattern, I use my zoom lens to compress the scene and to have a red background for the lattern.

#3 Friendly face in the crowd
My favourite street portrait in this set.

#4 Reflections reflections
Photographers have this weird past time of squatting next to water puddles. This picture explains why we were squatting in public earlier... U never know what u r going to get.

#5 Well wishing lions
Playing with lines/patterns and colours here. For my non-Chinese friends, the well wishes hanging from the lions' mouth means 'beckoning wealth ushering gold'.... Something like tat...

#6 Pink fire in Chinatown
This flower struck me as its shape is likened to flames of a fire. Using a long focal length and large aperture to blur out the messy background and focus only on the pink flames.. I mean flower.

#7 Napping in public
If my encik see this... This man would be doing his jumping jacks! Sometimes u wonder does these old folks have a place to rest.

#8 Smart looking ah chek
If there is a Mr. Chinatown competition among the elderly in Chinatown, I think this Ah Chek (old uncle) would have given many a run for their money!

#9 Colours in Chinatown
I like to take pictures of colourful windmill. These colourful things are simply eye catching.

#10 Checking out the news
The red background provides a great colour to shoot this scene with. Wonder does he mind me reading his papers together...

#11 Rows and rows of colourful lanterns
It's really a sight to behold! The temple staff are a hardworking lot! That's alot of lanterns to hang.

#12 Framing everything in
We were up in the hdb flats taking pictures of the temple and the cityscape. Rather then keeping the cityscape pics, I find this picture much more interesting to look at.

#13 Snarling cat
This little fella greeted us before we attacked our chow at the end of our walk. Boy...it does not look friendly... good thing its small.

sooch That is a great portrait in #3, is that the 70-200 that made that wonderful bokeh in that shot? #10 is great for the red color and the way the guy is sitting, very interesting. #11 is a wonderful display of lines shapes and color, nicely done:)
