The Kiryu Yagibushi Matsuri is one of the exciting summer festivals in Gunma. Platforms with taiko drummers, called yagura, are set up every few blocks along the street. There are plenty of vendors with snacks, games, and toys. At the base of some of the platforms are various performances, and at others are large circles of dancers. The drummers also sing a song, whose meaning is something like, "It's silly to dance, but it's silly to watch. If you're going to be silly, you might as well be dancing." At the festival, everyone is free to jump into the circle and learn to do the Yagibushi dance.
