The Doodlebug and the communications shack...

2011.10.18
pixel
The infamous Doodlebug or V-1 flying bomb that terrorised England during WWII
pixel
...as long as you could hear the engine throbbing, you were OK, it was when the noise stopped you knew it was coming down...
pixel
Very complicated scaffolding holding up a communications dish...
pixel
This is John modelling the latest in raido gear, (ok! perhaps not the latest...)
pixel
The microphone was two sensors which are held either side of your voice box, this way you didn't have to shout to be heard...
pixel
John and Callum had great fun in the communications shack, they tried out a radio and microphone used in WWII, and they sat in the reconstructed communication booth of a Lancaster bomber and spelt out their names in morse code and got a certificate saying they'd done it...

revenant I can't help wondering whether the English (not the others in the UK, which is why I say it) aren't a tad too obsessed with the Second World War and whether this colours their attitude to the rest of Europe.

danrav John certainly has a rich set of experiences to remember later in life!! He is a lucky boy! That rocket was brutal and was a real horror! Great shots Ann.
