“That man is back.” said Andrew’s friend.
“Who?” he replied.
“You know, the man with the angel.”
Day two on completing some landscape cleanup and the children were still very interested in the angel. They asked if I still had it.
“Yes”, I replied.
“In your backpack? asked Andrew.
“Yes, still in my backpack.”
I asked him if he had talked to God yet and he just looked at me wondering how to do that or something. I told him to just say something like, “Hi God, this is Andrew.” and God might say something like, “Hello, I’ve been waiting for you.” That got a smile on his little round face and off he rode on his bike.
As I continued to haul the trimmings from the cleanup job to the curb, he would bike past, wave and smile. As I completed the work and took a water break, I thought of a better use for the angel and headed back to my backpack. As Andrew began making another round on his bike I held my hand up as if to wave him over. I pulled the ceramic angel out of my shirt pocket and said, “Take care of this, it is very fragile.” He just smiled from ear to ear and went over to share his new angel with his friends.
