Arabella the dog: Guard Dog Extrodinaré

2007.12.09
As I've grown up I've come to notice all the doggies in their houses that bark at me and squirrels and cars as they go by on the street - I thought to myself 'that's silly Arabella, why don't they bark at an actual menace?'.

Well - I've taken that to heart as I set up shop protecting my home. I've learned a few things - don't bark at squirrels, its true they have their own agenda but the only way to stop them is to actually CATCH them and that involves sneaking up on them. Regular people on the street and those being walked by their dogs can pass my house without being bothered. The mailman and fellow renters are allowed to approach the house without warning but strangers warrant a alarm sounded.

In practical application these rules seem to work out pretty well as soon as I figure out the doorbell thing. Now my mom has been sick and taking those little green pills that make her real sleep real deep at night so I've upped security a little bit - for her protection - it means less sleep for me at night but that's okay with me, I'll just nap during the day.

On duty last night I was the first up in the neighborhood when the strange walking man starting walking past our house - back and forth back and forth with something in his hand. I sounded the alarm and a very very groggy (talk about sleeping on the job!) mom got up and came to the window just in time to see the interloper throw the object at a parked car! Imagine our surprise when we realized it was in fact a BRICK!! and the rear winder shattered and the object bounce into the middle of the street causing the man to rush off back the way he came. (seeing the trouble had passed I myself went back to bed) to be followed by a VERY groggy mom who feel asleep without even calling the cops about the incident.

When we woke up this very morning mom checked out the window first thing to see if it had all been a dream (NOT) and felt bad for not calling the cops (silly her). I however was secure in my knowledge that I had done my job and done it well. To this end I was rather surprised when mom came outside with me carrying a very large poop bag, retrieved the brick from the road and used the bag and brick to cover the rear view window on the car BEFORE we went on our walk! You'd think she'd have more respect for a champion dog guard like me than to make me wait while she acts this strangely.

UPDATE: Later in the evening when mom came home from work and finally took me outside Baldwin was finally out in the yard to play with me again! Turns out his dad is the owner of the car and didn't find the shattered window until 8PM! When he and his girl spent some serious time wondering what exactly was going on in the deranged mind of the person who first broke their window with a brick and THEN covered it with a garbage bag! Well needless to say mom was able to spread some light on the situation!
