The hole in my side.

2008.08.14
...or that one time when mom locked a bleeding dog in her room.

It all started yesterday at dinner, I was begging (as usual) and trying to hike the tiny cut in my side from mom when she finally gave me a treat. Then it happened. She say it, but instead of seeing a teeny-tiny cut she saw a gaping hole the size of a penny. She called the grandparents over too look at my wound and they were a little shocked themselves, clearly something had to be done.
So mom gathered up the med supplies and went over to Tina's. Everyone looked over the hole and then they began the cleaning and putting antibiotic ointment on it, in short everything was going well. Mom held the gauze down and Tina wrapped the vet wrap around my middle...but then it slid down around my belly and pulled the wound open. What a bad place for a hole!! Right where my rib cadge narrows and boy does my rib cadge narrow.
We tried the vet wrap again, and gauze and then band aids and different kinds of band aides and medical tape. And mom wanted to shave my hair off so the band aides would attach better but we only found the little shaver and it was broken and we looked everyone for the big shaver... Finally mom found it and it needed to be cleaned and then after I got shaved I needed to be cleaned!!! The water in my hole hurt! This is bad news bears. Then the I was wet and the band aids really didn't stick at all. We all laid down to watch the olympics and let my side dry out.
Then the band aids still didn't stick, we found a butterfly bandage, that should stick!!! But it didn't. Finally the semi-attached some bandages and put one of Tina's shirts on me and we went home.
Where mom wanted to finally get something to stick. She put me on the bed and told me to stay and went and raided all of the medicine cabinets. So I'm laying on the bed, in a shirt with a hole when mom decides she really needs that medical tape from her car. So she tells me to stay and shuts the door (coz I always want to go outside with her). It shuts.
Mom pauses in the other room, turns the handle. Locked...

The door is locked. The bleeding dog is in the bedroom on the bed, wound open to the air and my licking tongue. Bad bad news bears because we don't have a key to that door. Grandpa might have a key but its really late now and he gets up at 5 in the morning. No luck, mom has a few options. 1) Open it with a credit card 2) find a key. 3) go outside, unscrew the window and break the window screen. She goes and tries the credit card, no dice. She goes and finds all the spare keys, no luck. Mom really doesn't want to break the window.
She looks around the room and spies the hinges. "That'll work", she thinks! She quickly pulls the pins and tries to open the door. It's stuck! There isn't enough clearance to get the door past the hinges still attached to the door frame. She struggles and pulls and gets some vice gripps and a hammer and a mallet and uses screw drivers as levers. She finally pulls the door open.
Now just to bandage the dog.

And that is the horrible horrible story of the yesterday, when I got a wound and mom locked me in our bedroom.

Lady Kaos That sounds like something that would happen at my house! OH WAIT! Something similar happened! Mom and I were locked outside with my sister, the phone and the keys inside the house. Luckily Dad came home before Mom had to resort to breaking screens.
I hope you heal fast so you don't ahve to go through that every time she needs to replace the bandage!! lol

Sparky Arabella!

Oh dear, that sounds like a real nightmare! Being locked in a room all by yourself with a hole in your side, that's horrible! I really hope you're feeling better now!

Jenny Oh no! Poor Bella :( I hope you're feeling better. Did she fix the door? Or are you guys going door-less?
Jenny · 2008-08-14: 20:48
Arabella She did manage to fix the door and I feel fit as a fiddle (whatever that means). But mom won't let me run or swim or play with other puppies until it's healed a little better.
