War of 1812 re-enactors invade Port Dover.More than 300 re-enactors converged on the town for this weekend's second annual Marine Heritage Festival -- The re-enactors represented 20 historical associations from Ontario and neighbouring states south of the border. When they weren't re-enacting battles in period costumes, they were roughing it in encampments along the waterfront under conditions similar to those of the early 19th century.

The War of 1812 is a critical part of Port Dover's past because American invaders came ashore in 1814 and burned the village and its mill to the ground. The Americans combed the Norfolk countryside in search of other mills. The ones they found were looted and torched.

Very cool. I met a couple who are geocachers 2 weeks ago and they were telling us about a trek they would soon be doing to participate in the re-enactment at Port Dover.
