I was in Sweden for a weekend

2008.01.07
This was this really weird art exhibition of old women chopping wood and throwing axes at a target. Welcome to Sweden!

Getting here was a hoot. There's a 2o minute train thats super zippy. Sadly on this flight I sat next to a very talkative french guy who continued to talk to me all the way to the city. My cell phone wasn't working so he ended up calling my phone and somehow getting the number which he called no less then 40 times when he got home. Oh France.

Brilliant.

St. Goran, the protector of Stockholm and slayer of the dragon. Its funny because the friend I stayed with is named Goran, though he hasn't to my knowledge slayed a dragon.

So Stockholm is based on 7 main Islands. Its a little confusing but its beautiful.

The other thing I learned about Sweden is that it gets dark at about 330. This was a bit of a surprise! It also meant that my "sight-seeing" was more like walking around in the dark.

According to Goran Swedes are racist. This was the anti nazi rally. There were more police to protect the protestors than protestors.

Dream team, W3 and Q house reunion. Sophia and Goran!

Changing of the guard.

Goran mocking the military

It was SO boring

Goran and I took a boat ride around the city and saw some beautiful buildings, the port, ect.

This crane was painted like a giraffe

Some crazy chrisitan gorup put up all these weird signs. Look who we found in Stockholm!

Great Christmas windows!

Goran is a student at the university of Stockholm. He studies gov't just like me! Unlike me the state pays him to study and he can afford his own apartment. Very jealous.

I sadly do not have photos of the Vasa warship because to preserve the ship its kept in really dim light that my camera did not like. Its a 16th century dutch warship that was supposed to be the toast of the navy. They were in a bitter war with Poland at the time. Sadly, the vasa sailed only 2km on her maiden voyage before she tipped over and sank basically still in the harbor. Because she rolled hundreds of people drowned and because of the fridged weather she was pretty well preserved. Lots of bones on display in the museum and super interesting. We got to see some of their old diving equipment which was basically a huge iron bell that you were inside and got lowered into the water with. *shudder*
