I had a chance of being a temp assistant to painter & pro photographer,
Charlie Lim & witnessed his method of light painting.
Using a medium format
Mamiya camera set to 'Bulb' with a
Phase One back and a
Hosemaster fibre optic light pen, the subjects are painted in a darkened room & the result of his captures looked like oil paintings through the camera itself. No editing. No Photoshop. Read

My setup was miles simpler than his. Anyway this was just an experiment, but again I had to seek help from my sleepy wife to do a bit of posing in our super darkened bedroom.
My camera settings:
Camera:
Canon 400D, Tripod-mounted
Shutter speed:
30 sec (no shutter release trigger, so no way I'm gonna use 'Bulb')
Aperture:
f11
ISO:
100
Light source:
LED Torchlight
No editing was done except increasing the contrast to darken the dark parts & lighten the light parts.
Even though my works do not even come close to looking like oil paintings, I am quite happy with how the light falls on certain parts of the subject and parts of the background. (And one more thing... please pardon the ugly background!)
I think I'll be doing more of this for a while...
