The Lacaille 8760 Affair:: Day 23

2008.02.11

Another great adventure! Today Nick and I headed down to the Vista Theatre on Sunset Blvd to see There Will Be Blood. We had both been wanting to check it out, but after having it recommended by Gordy Grundy, Nick, with renewed fervor, said today was the day.

This is the only theatre in California that we have been to, and probably the only one we will ever go to, barring some unforseen circumstance. Typical theatres around here are apporimately $12 or $13 per person and the pair of us are both staunchly against ever paying out such exorbitance. The Vista is both cool AND cheap, a winning combination. The matinees are only $5 and that's a bargin even in the sticks where I come from.

The catch is they only play one movie at a time, which is ultimately for the best or we'd be there all the time.

If you haven't seen There Will Be Blood, or at least heard about it...you may or maynot be living under a rock. I don't mean to offend, but even we knew about this film and we don't have TV or the newspaper. We don't hear about much haha. This movie is raking in awards left and right and being raved about by everyone. Even a kid at The One Dollar Bookstore was talking about it.

Well, it really was, just that good. The intensity, anxiety and drama were spilling off the screen, flooding the audience, practically drowning us in the very oil that washed over the lives of every character in the film. The music was profound, the acting was perfection and the direction, precision. Even if this is not your kind film, which it really is not mine, you become immersed and involved and in the end it garners your respect.

At least rent it when it comes out if you don't see it in theatres.

And for my next trick, I will become a movie critic ~_^

Until Tomorrow.

Cheers.

pucaru I m one of those who have not heard of that movie and i have 5 computers conected to internet 2 Tv's and 5 radios :-) but i m goin to keep an eye and ear on this movie. Movies here in NYC are also exepensive about $10 then if you want to buy soda and a popcorn it will easily cost you $20 . I use to go to movies every sunday but since they closed the theatre near me i hate to walk that extra 10 blocks is not the walking really is more because I dont find as handy as it used to be

focussed Ok so.....Ill have to admit I'm also another one who has been living under a rock and has not heard of this movie. Although after just googling the preview it does look very good. I may have to go and see it on your convincing recommendation!
We have a very cute and quaint little movie theater just up the road from us. Unfortunately it has recently been restored and while it is just lovely inside, it certainly isnt cheap. Well prices are the same as the major cinema's but movie snacks are a total rip off. i guess they have to pay for the refurbs somehow!
Love love love that blue in your shot....Ive been a bit stuck on B&W lately. Everytime i come visit you I get the color pangs...

PaulinaT Oh, I love the way you write - with ease and enthusiasm... You could be a movie critic and photojournalist at the same time :)

ambersunsets I'll definitely have to check it out. I think you would be a great movie critic, but please keep posting photos(:

PaperWings ooooohhh, Andre and I want to see that too. Don't you just love Daniel Day-Lewis? He's such a man. :)
That is a cool sign, too. $5 bucks is a deal. We have a "Cheap Show" as we call it, here in Chatt. It's only $2.50, which is awesome, but it shows movies a little later. Once they leave the other big pricey theatre, they come there. Fine by us.

LotoFoto Ok, I'd never heard of that movie. I'm embarrassed to say! Thanks for the tip!
