Woodbridge Tide Mill in Woodbridge, Suffolk, England is a rare example of a tide mill whose water wheel still turns. Tide Mill is the last remaining example of its kind in England. A water mill has existed on this spot since the 12th century, while the present structure was erected in 1793 and continued operations until 1957. Tide mills were commonly situated at the heads of estuaries leading from the sea. Completely restored to working order in 1982, the Woodbridge mill offers demonstrations when the tides are right. Ye Olde Bell and Steelyard Inn, one of the oldest pubs in England. Overhanging the road from this is a 17th-century steelyard — a balance scale once used to weigh wagon loads coming to and from the market for toll-collection purposes. It was last used in the 1880s. a rare survival from the turnpike era.
