Mary Ellen Jones locking at Montgomery with a large push of about fifteen barges. The first photo is of her waiting in the approach with barges both in and below the lock. About one and a half hours later, she continues downstream with her push. The light is fading fast as she passes by in the Ohio River Valley. In the final photo as she emerges into the fading sunlight, the Bruce Mansfield coal powered generation plant comes into view.

151 ft long and weighing in at 652 gross tons she was built in 1965 by Dravo Corp.
Dravo Corporation was a shipbuilding company with shipyards in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Wilmington, Delaware. It was founded by Frank and Ralph Dravo in Pittsburgh during the 1890s.
She is currently registered by the Madison Coal and Supply Company of Charleston West Virginia, a family owned company founded in 1915 with a fleet of thirty towboats, fifteen floating cranes, deck and hopper barges, excavators, trucks, dozers, and wheel loaders.

Eiram I loved the name Mary Ellen Jones..sounds like a name of a poet I thought, so I googled it. Found out that Mary Ellen Jones was a biochemist , her studies of the components of DNA were part of the foundation of basic cancer research....
Things I am learning here on PB:)) Thank you!!
