Days two and three - Preparing our gardens

2008.04.27
I put these lilium in a number of pots, because of their space requirement.

I have planted 61 pots total! If I had to guess how many bulbs I planted, I'd have say around 100. I am very to see how they have progressed when I return home. My husband is plant sitting while I am at school. He is going to keep them watered. I am really going to miss them, watching them grow is one of my favorite parts of gardening. :(

Calla lilies!

These are cheddar pinks, they are like grass and have little pink flowers. It is the skinny tag shown above. The pot on the right came back quick, the other one is having a slow start.

Rosa. These roses will grow nice and big, and will fill this pot up. Can't wait!

Pansies.

I planted amethysts here, I thought they would look great by the pond!

Here you can see the bushes that have been moved from the front to the back. We had added more potted plants around it and we put over a dozen plants in the pond. You can only see six here, the others are under the water and have to grow. Lilies, etc.

I planted lots of wildflowers where the bushes were.

Here are some follow- up photos of our progress. We would have been much further along, but we had to go to NYC for my husband's ordination. My husband is going to be getting out the furniture soon. We will be having a Memorial Day party, we are expecting about 80-100 people, then on May 31st we are going to have my son's high school graduation party. We need to have it early, because he leaves for AMDA on the 29th.

Gardening has been a growing hobby for me since the early 90s. I started with simple things like marigolds, etc. We have been living in this house for nine years. There used to be four rather large bushes in front of the house, two on each side of the porch, they were as high as the window level. Our development of this property all started one year for Mother's Day, when I asked for a garden in front of the big window. That was the beginning of a wonderful adventure. Another Mother's Day I got the pond. My husband put in a brick patio on the right side of the house as well.

We took down four enormous Pine trees that ran along the fence line about 5 summers ago I think. That same week we put a pond in one of the holes. Last sumer we laid rock down, because I couldn't grow grass well. Those trees were there forever, and ever. The soil was terrible. That's okay though because we love the new layout much better.

This summer we are going to be laying pea stone along the house along with several stepping stones. All of our work is supposed to be completed by Memorial weekend. I will probably be going home this weekend to supervise. ;O)

I apologize for not being online very much the last two weeks, my schedule was very hectic. On top of it, I was very sick with severe abdominal pain for 2 full weeks. I went to the emergency room finally on Saturday, but was not able to get any answers, this is typical for me.

I look forward to chatting with all of you again on a more regular basis. Although I do start classes tonight, I have 2 this session, so I will be out four nights a week. However, there is always the time before 6 PM, and after 9 PM.
