Daniel Boone Homestead

The homestead has 579 acres of open space. His parents settled here in 1730. Daniel was born here in 1734 and lived here until he was sixteen before his family moved to North Carolina.

This is the maintenance barn.

This is the visitor's center.

This is the Bertolet Sawmill. This is water-powered, vertical-blade sawmill was moved to this site from the Oley Valley in 1972. The mill was built circa 1810.

This structure, built in 1940, it is available for overnight lodging youth groups. Programs, meetings and seminars are also held here.

DeTurk Educational Center- This structure was built in 1812 by Samuel Deturk, brother of John DeTurk who owned the Boone House from 1770 to 1808. Samuel is buried in the DeTurk Cemetery. The building is now used for educational and public programs.

After my visit to the National Clock Museum, I traveled to Reading, PA. From Reading to home. During my travel, I came across the Daniel Boone Homestead. I need to go back because I only had 15 minutes before they were closing. I quickly drove down the road and shoot these buildings. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get to the Boone home.

I like this! Daniel Boone is one of the heroes of my childhood! I used to read the stories!
