Throughout my 20 year marriage we have thrown parties for New Year's at our homes or at the churches we have pastored.

Last year, I decided to invite several girls to my house for an overnighter. I have a heart for kids. I try to encourage them anyway I can to help them succeed in life both spiritually and educationally. I am passing on the gift that so many gave to me as I struggled to find my way as a young person.

We ate pizza, wings, chips and dip. The girls danced the night away to the video game Dance Dance Revolution. We spent the night going back and forth between my house and the church. At the church, they were celebrating the New Year with 5 worship teams from various churches around the area. There were about 100 people. It was a great time!

After midnight, the majority of the people left, while several of us stayed for the duration of the night playing games. I left the church with my girls around 6:40 AM this morning. Their parents were to pick them up at 8:00 AM. The last 2 girls left around 9:00 AM. I don't have many pictures of the activities at the church, because we left my house spontaneously the second time. Also, I was engaged in conversation for most of the party. It is good to be a participant too... ;O)

I went to bed around 10:00 AM this morning and got up around 2:00 PM because several of the guys were preparing to go sled riding. Needless to say, I opted out. I went back to bed around 5 PM and then woke up again after 8:00 PM to the ringing of the telephone. Mark was calling to check in. I have been up since the call and plan to try to stay up awhile so I can sleep for most of the night.

This is how I spend a typical New Year's day- exhausted!
