QUIZ 2 - and the sly answer is...

2007.06.14
Is this ART? Or just a piece of furniture?!

Let us see what the visitors had to say about this:

Ah!... Let me put my cup in this nice cupboard!

Mmmm... my bag is getting so heavy!

"Mommy, wait! This is ART!"... but his/her mother was not impressed :(

Q2:Q2:Q2:Q2:Q2:Q2:

- and the answer is:

Mister Sylvester Stallone is, and was (back then) a keen art collector!

The first to mention something like this was: blur911, yeah: so here goes another german car for your collection :)

Runner-up position goes to funnyfac3 but only because of the question marks :) In fact yours was the best "right on target" answer... but you don't answer a question with another question (unless you're into politics or philosophy)!

The lower spot of the podium is a huge one because we must place there quite a crowd and that's fun: emmetan who mentioned him being an adviser on art collecting, investing and appraising, jendayee who reminded us that Sly is a Bachelor of Fine Arts since 1999, and all those who mentioned that Mr. Stallone was (or is) a painter including hail665 who had a special way of measuring time :)
Unlike jendayee, he didn't gives us dates... he said that Sly "... started painting back in the Rambo II or III days"! Ah! this is truly cinematic...

To all the other bloggers, THANK YOU for participating with funny, witty or sarcastic comments that make that blog page a delight to read!!

Q2!Q2!Q2!Q2!Q2!Q2!

But... if you want to know the insider stories about how that all came about... then, just follow me:

Those photos were taken in The Los Angeles Convention Center in the first day of a major art fair called ART LA 89.

Now, let's say that exhibition/market officially opened at 6 p. m. (eighteen hundred, for you military types): the normal situation is for the directors of the event to make a first tour of the fair with the VIP's chosen for the privilege of having them as "guides".

But, is that the best you can do?!

Of course not! The ultimate privilege in the art world is to have the above mentioned tour, guided by the top people in charge of the event, but that tour is made only for you and half an hour before the official opening!

And guess who had that ultimate privilege?! :)

But that happened, not because Sly was a painter (which I don't think he was back then), but because he was an art collector, and therefore was BUYING/had money to spend!

Now, isn't that what every good director of an art fair wants?! :)

So, at 5.30 p.m. Sly is being guided around, and all the gallerists had been advised to get their booths ready before the opening because someone special was coming by. I'm sure you can guess the sneering faces of the europeans and new yorkers (you know how much NY intellectuals hate LA) thinking: "So, Los Angeles! Is this the best you can get? Mr. Sly?!" :(

I could have been part of that group, if not for an amazing coincidence: a few days before, on the flight from NY to LA, I came across the following news:

"Sylvester Stallone wins legal dispute with Peggy Guggenheim" concerning some art pieces!? I don't remember the details of the case, if Sly had bought those art works, or if it was a question of appraisals... or even about their authenticity!?

The fact remains that it was not about boxing in the movies... it was a sensitive matter within the art world... and against someone called Guggenheim!

Q2.Q2.Q2.Q2.Q2.Q2.

Art (in the photos above) by Rui Sanches.
I would like to say hello! (among others) to the following people that went with me to L. A. or that I met there:
José Mário Brandão, Fernanda Salvador, Cristina Salvador, Rita McBride, José de Guimarães, Safira and Luis Serpa, James Coburn, Mimi Rogers and Emílio Estevez.

MidsummerSilence but that 'art' looks rather functional in a way not photographed in here. honestly it looks like a kinky bedroom setup... but that's just my opinion.

tee hee. ;)

eidea man, i made it through your lengthy explanation (gosh, you're almost as talkative on your blog then me!), but i still don't get one thing:

how the heck are you involved with art? i thought you like nakid chicks and cars?? mow suddenly this sublime switch over of your libido into the history of firewood for sly's chimmney?

i don't get it. gotta ask the flipados what's going on.
