In May we had the "manor" house series, so this could be the "minor" house... because it is much smaller; not so in terms of importance in the world of architecture!

storytaylor cabecila this is something very very good. I love it. I know who is one of the most famous architects of the world. I meet him with another portuguese architect and Cecil Balmondat at the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London. thanks for sharing.

????? A structure becomes architectural, and not sculptural, when its elements no longer have their justification in nature.
Guillaume Apollinaire

The structures blend in nicely with the natural stone colors they look like they belong in to the surroundings and have a peaceful look to them. Great post

Carley I agree with lulmierenatural.....I love the way it all fits into the land surrounding it and belongs to it, and the way it mixes the modern with the very old. Is this part of the restoration work that you did?
Carley · 2007-10-02: 18:10
Cabecilha StoryTaylor :)

You met SIZA! That's great! Your comment was very important because it's excellent that you know his work... if you look at the photos from this house (and because it's not "FLASHY/LOUD" architecture) you might not realize that you are in the presence of something very special.
The Serpentine - where you met him - was a very special place for another portuguese artist: Paula Rego, the painter!

Cabecilha · 2007-10-04: 09:03
Cabecilha Silke :)

Coming from you (that were so enthusiastic about the manos-house) this preference for the "minor" house can only be very special!!!

The big farm house is a very new and modern project with all the luxuries and special amenities for your comfort... but this small group of houses and the sorrounding gardens have such a charm that is indeed irresistible! The changing of seasons there is a delight for photographers... it's our little corner of paradise! Thank you for being a fan!
Cabecilha · 2007-10-04: 09:08
Cabecilha MId S. S. (and everyone else)

you are all very wellcome there... with or without your cameras :))
Cabecilha · 2007-10-04: 09:11
Cabecilha LumiereNatural

wonderful quote and so accurate:

the architect SIZA used a landscaping architect on this project (although the sorrounding gardens are very small) and so the buildings fit with the sorroundings because most were already there - only some volumes were added - but also because nature around was reshaped to be even "better that what nature had provided"!!
Cabecilha · 2007-10-04: 09:17
Cabecilha Carley

do check the data file above:

- this is a famous project by architect Alvaro Siza that includes the restoration of some existing houses, then adding some new volumes and also reshaping the sorrounding gardens and creating a swimming pool...

- in May I showed you what I called "the manor-house series" which is a totally different project from this one, in time, space and architects involved, though it also involves restoration.
