Noche Mexicana

2008.09.29
mmMmm! These wonderful snacks (ate de membrillo) are a delicious reminder of how unique a culture can have in sweets~

they went fast!

my mom and dad! (my mom made her own outfit mexicana)

Me, Mirna, and my Mom~

Mirna had connections with the folklorico dresses (she's in the club at school)

at dinner, we were able to be around everybody who participated in the outfits-- this here is la india Maria (with -fake- baby on her back and all!)

All delicious foods such as mole, menudo, frijoles rancheros, tostadas, flautas, arroz and oh! the drinks were ice cold horchatas and jamaica!

This adorable little girl wore the cutest little mariachi dress i have ever seen! No doubt she won 1st place in the costume contest!

Here are a few other costumes that the participants were wearing

un indito

ahora con su mama- La india Maria! =P

we were called to line up for the competetion

"vuelta! vuelta!"

We were being judged by the audience, who (uncooperatively) cheered the same volume for the last 3 contestants!! those sneaky students!

they finally decided that the little girl in the Mariachi dress won first, then the Indio family won 2nd and we won 3rd

There was a funny song to fill in time

I was chosen (along with dad) to play a game of balance-the-marshmallow-on-your-tongue-the-longest game. I lost.

And then came the balloon game where we had to tie a balloon to our ankles with a string and run around and eliminate others by stomping their's out.

The long folklorico dress was to my advantage-- Dad on the other hand decided he'd hop around with his balloon in the air while he chased down some people to stomp their balloons!

unfortunately, my balloon had a thin spot ever since i blew it up in the beginning, so it slowly deflated to it's original size and i had to leave the game =(

We ended with a prayer and all went our separate ways back home

What a night to remember!

I have never been to a Noche Mexicana before.

When i heard that we were invited to the Colegio Biblico in Piedras to attend in Mexican wear, i was so giddy!! I also immediately thought of Mirna's folklorico dresses! What a perfect chance to try on those beautiful dresses!

Well, what most surprised me, was that after the dresses came the hair-style and my bangs went back. I had a whole forehead to show. I didn't think i looked like me! And even if i did, i thought i looked much younger-- about as young as i did when i DIDN'T have bangs...
ohhh it was an exciting night! We played games and won 3rd in the costume contest~
I was so glad to take a part in something like that =)
