Okay, i think somewhat i need to just let it out that i have been an exuberant Jem fan for the longest time.
How did it start if i wasn't even born when the show was cancelled? I have no idea why, but for some reason, Elias came across the short movie of Jem on the internet and thought i'd like to see it- seeing i'm into watching cartoons and i had just finished watching an extremely 80's cartoon movie.
He skimmed me through the first half hour of the movie and i said, "Stop!" I don't like spoilers, and if i was going to watch the movie, it was going to be from start to finish. "bah, this is a real old show that even Jess watched as a kid," he said uninterested in letting me see the rest.
I got the chance one day and saw the movie (which i now know was the first 4 episodes of the series put together). I was excited! What a great movie! And I had a little fad where i was quoting and recalling it and i even grabbed hold of the music in the movie. oh, and let's recall that myspace layout I did of Jem and the holograms.
Well, when that was way over, I moved on. But when i began to YouTube search the Jem clips, I found that there was more. MUCH more. There were 3 seasons of the show and that was 3 seasons i had not even known existed. You bet i went on to find them and watch more episodes.
Well into my 11th episode, I found out there were dolls for this series. DOLLS. I'm way over that "play with dolls" phase. But this was different. Collecters I had seen created masterpieces with these dolls and made everything more attractive to me. There were fashions and playsets and all the wonderful things.
Website after website i found out more about this 80's phenomenon only to realize that it was completely unknown and unappreciated by everybody who had never lived during this incredible time that Hasbro's Jem dolls were competing with Mattel's Barbies.
And then i started to see comments and things like, "The dolls aren't made anymore and Mattel hasn't announced any reproduction even after rumored there would be more Jem dolls available." How awful.
I was such a large fan and i would never be able to get my hands on a doll. Not a single one, seeing how rare they were and how easily anybody throws away an old ratted Barbie...
So still i would search and hear things like, "I found this one in a thrift store and restored it" and it would show a beautiful doll i could recognize as Rock n Curl Jem or Second Edition Aja.

So i just had to try. I decided that i wanted to be one of those. I wanted to go and claim that I had found them after 20 years in a yard sale.
So i tried the next best thing: The Pulga.
I went to one saturday in high hopes that i would surely find that doll because there had to be one. At least one doll in the whole super flea market! It sounds crazy that there wouldn't! But then again, it is Eagle Pass... but i gave it a shot.
I wasn't embarrassed to go up to every box or table that had a pile of naked Barbies and Barbie look-a-likes. I could even recognize the old Barbies in those piles because i had set my mind at one point to try and modify a Barbie that looked closest to Jem. No luck after walking up and down those isles of expensive Barbies.
No luck that day (remember that post of Lomography at the Pulga?).
Well, when that didn't work I set my mind to creating a One of a kind sculpey clay model of Jem. But i just couldn't compare it to the wonders of owning those dolls! (doll attempt in post "I'm working on it" and Jem doll completion in post "Truly Outrageous!")

And here still comes the story:
I stop at most Yard sales i see, asking and hoping to get a response for "venden muñecas?" or "son todas las muñecas que tienen?"

Maybe this post is just because i can't wait to receive that Glitter and Gold Jem doll i ordered off of Ebay-- which means i lost the war. The greatest desire to find my own doll, crushed. There was no way I could get this doll other than Ebay, so i'm glad i guess. And i can't wait to get it either tomorrow or Monday!! X3
