In his instance i would have preferred the set to continue as it had begun in shot #1. for me the brushed and burnt out look in the rest, detracts in this particular instance, from the evident distress of the place. For me the effects add nothing to what could have been gained from allowing more of what was already there, to come through. ?:o)

yes, for me this is right for this particular set. the effect in your beach blog was perfect for that, but here the subject speaks well for itself. the composition was always good, and i do like the slightly spooky atmosphere created by the dark edging in the last two photos. cheers. ?:o).
