Around the de Deugd place

2008.10.29
the dirt around here is an amazingly rich red-brown. The dirt however, doesn't look quite so amazing in thin layers on things like cars!

This turtle we found in the middle of a nearby dirt road!
The pond in the front yard seemed a much more appropriate place.

the turtle was too shy to pull it's head out while being watched, but it eventually tried out the pond water.

Pete's brother Andrew made this footstool as a young chap for his mother (I think it was made the year I was born!) Mrs de Deugd had always hoped to cover it one day, so Genevieve volunteered my upholstery sevices.
Step1. Old seatbelts for base support.
2. large piping for a firm curved edge

next comes a slightly oversized piece of foam

cover TIGHTLY with calico or similar

finish with final fabric and a braid around the edge (to hide the line of staples)

Although it is late spring, the mornings can still be FREEZING. so bundle up before venturing outside to hang washing or pick lettuce.
Note all the DARLING baby clothes from op shops getting ready...

I'm gonna miss this place
