In his mid-sixties, my father decided he wanted to learn the clarinet, and in particular, Mozart's clarinet concerto. It was a piece of music he could rarely listen to without misty eyes.
Dad died in March, and today would have been his 79th birthday.

This is for you, Dad, and for all you who have lost somebody special.

These the words I used on-air this morning to introduce the adagio movement of Mozart's clarinet concerto.

PS Dad did learn to play the concerto.
Sort of.
It was terrible.
