Jeju III

2008.05.17
The view from my second room at the HIker's Inn in Seogwipo. The original view overlooked the water from two sides, it was lovely, but some small rodent scratched behind the walls and kept me up at night so I had to move. At least that's what I think it was, though I woke the hotel manager early in the morning to hear nothing, and I think he probably thinks I'm crazy.

The convenient store around the corner from the Hiker's Inn.

Umm, a wall.

A street cleaner. Thank god for them, since there are no trashcans anywhere in Korea!

Jeju's dino museum.

View from the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong, Sunrise Peak.

"Kai bai bo!"
=rock paper scissors!! The most popular game in Korea, it decides everything, kids can't make it down a hiking trail without it...

From the side of Sunrise Peak. This use to be an active volcano which caused a giant crater in the middle of it.

This kid was so frightened and when his dad put him down he refused to go anywhere and even started heading back up the hill.

So many couple, this is the island of love.

It is also the island of the gods, and though Christian crosses are sprinkled across every town and city of Korea, the Buddhist temples are carefully watched and maintained in the most sacred places, such as the foot of a dormant volcano known for its natural magic.
Sunrise Peak is better known as Seangsan Ilchulbong.

Inside El Paso, a Mexican restaurant in Jeju-si. Not exactly the same as being in back in Texas but the art was good. I just can't get over how frightened Koreans are to give me spicy food. Hello, I grew up in Texas! You don't know spice, namja!

This was a funny contrast- old man and Madonna. I don't know why there was a sexy Madonna billboard in this wee little country town, but there was...

Man washing his feet with a hose. He was quite thorough and knelt washing his feet for the entire time I waited for my bus, which was about fifteen minutes at least. I spent half my time watching him rub his ankles, and the other half watching two ladies feed a scared, stray dog chunks of taffy.

The fishing docks of Seogwipo, "the Provence of Jeju", in the morning.

I wish the old lady didn't blend in so well with the wall behind her...I saw this shot coming as she waddled up the street (I was waiting for a bus again)...and I almost didn't catch it, my camera was being funky. I'm so glad I did.

Painters...have you seen Handsome Donkey?...it's hilarious.

Cheonjeyon Falls.

Old grandpa face.
