July 31: Demoted Statue

2007.07.31
King Henry ends up in a carpark

I was taking a short break from being a Tradey's Assistant today by taking a drive into Bunbury for the smoko run. As a TA I'm as useless as a crab in the desert - all I managed to do all morning was put up one bracket for a shelf. In between naps and coffee runs, that is.

Anyhoo, as I passed by the Rose Hotel it reminded me to look for a statue that a friend had told me about. Apparently the statue that stands outside the drive-through bottleshop is from a famous church in England. It was shipped to Australia following a refurbishment of the church.

Found it alright, but it made me feel a bit sad - what a shame it is now sitting in a dodgy car-park without any accolades or awe that it would have seen in its glory days. How sad that such a treasure is being treated so dismally.

So today I am thankful for finding this unacknowledged and hidden piece of treasure.
