August 2: A 13-year Project

Around 13 years ago, my little Boy Wonderful was getting quite big for his cot. As I wanted to make him a special commemorative quilt to celebrate his transition to a bed, I began planning a bright, colourful and educational quilt that I estimated would take me several months to complete (thereby coinciding with a move to a bed).
I selected this ABC fabric - I was under the impression that multi-tasking a quilt (warmth AND education) made me a great parent. As far as I'm aware, this concept is still true. I like to believe so, anyway.
Fast forward 11 years and I've received news that I'm expecting a niece. So I pull out the fabric and padding (still in its wrapping from the store where I purchased it from a decade earlier) and tacked it all together. "This will be a beautiful, commemorative quilt for my niece," I smiled.
Now, another two years on and I've found the quilt again. It's exactly as I left it - tacked together but that's all. But with the news that I'm expecting another niece or nephew in October, I figure a couple of months will give me plenty of time to quilt the darned thing in time for his or her arrival.
Failing that, I'm sure I'll have more nieces or nephews to celebrate in the future!
Today I am thankful for the time I now have to complete some decade-old projects!
