August 5: Back to Perth

I was a back-seat passenger on the flight back to Perth today - the late take-off meant Vaughan had to fly (the only one qualified for instrument flying), and Gavstar took the co-pilot seat.

Boy Wonderful was pretty rapt - he got to sit next to his mum all the way home! He taught me how to use an MP3 player, but I must say his selection of songs was pretty limited. Must get him loaded up with some good stuff - U2, Nathan Gaunt, kd lang... I can just hear him now - "but Muuuuuuu-um!"

Flying at night was pretty amazing - my first time in the Bonanza. Venus travelled with us on the wing, and there was a rich tapestry of lights beneath us all the way. It appeared that there was little separating the city from the country.

Today I am thankful for the aeronautical pioneers and engineers through time who enabled us to fly home safely at night.
