August 25: Messy Thai

I like to think that I know a *little* about the Thai culture - I know enough, for example, that when you go to a restaurant and put the dishes in the middle of the table, that it is bad manners to put more than one meal type on your plate at a time. Each dish is supposed to be savoured independently for its unique and delicious flavours.

But I get mixed up about the cultural rule (or is it an urban myth?) about leaving a mess on the tablecloth. Which culture is it that says a messy tablecloth is a sign that the guests enjoyed the meal?

Today I am thankful that at least one of Gavstar's kids will eat Thai with us!
