"ooooh but Muuuum," wailed Boy Wonderful, "there are JELLYFISH in the river!"
BW and his mate wanted me to take them to the beach for the afternoon, but driving to the Perth beaches in the scorching heat is not my idea of fun. So instead I took them to a little river-beach that's just five (instead of 35) minutes from home.
And didn't I get the complaints? "The jellyfish are DISGUSTING!" was the cry.
Deep down my heart was breaking -- there's no way I'll hop into a jellyfish-infested river, so why should I expect the boys to? But on the other hand, I rationalised, "look how choppy the river is, the jellyfish won't be hanging around in that!", and "the jet-skis will have those critters chopped up before they can get to you."
Anyway, it took only five minutes before the boys discarded their tennis ball in exchange for throwing jellyfish carcas at each other.
Today I am thankful that some fears can be overcome very easily.
