Blaze finally demonstrate "guard dog" skills - here he is guarding us from a dead rat
The rat trap didn't quite do its job this morning, but did just enough to concuss the latest trespasser. Gavstar (my hero) carried the rat outside (in a hurry - the rat woke up half-way and put up a huge struggle for freedom). Anyhoo, Blaze was more than happy to take care of the situation once Gavstar handed the rat over - in this regard he's better than a cat.
Which reminds me of a story...
When Boy Wonderful was six months old I used to sit him next to the basket of washing for his entertainment - pulling the clothes out of the basket provided hours of fun. One day I sat him next to the basket and walked away to get a glass of water. When I came back I noticed him chewing away on a balled-up pair of socks. The cat was watching him with a cat-smile (ie, smirk) on her face but as that was normal for her I thought nothing of it.
And then, I DID think something of it...
"Hang on," I thought, "I haven't folded that laundry yet, which means I haven't rolled any pairs of socks into balls."
Which then left me wondering, "so what the hell is BW chewing on?"
I went closer to investigate... the scream that followed could have woken the dead. BW was chewing on a lovely little offering that the cat had dropped at his feet - a big black rat.
Today I'm thankful for a couple of things:
- my scream didn't wake the dead after all,
- we have a dog who plays OUTSIDE with any dead rats, well away from the baby.
