June 8 - 14

2008.06.08
June 8: After nine months of hard work, my brother and his partner were finally successful in installing an outdoor area at the Butterfly Club . Nine months? Sounds like a gestation period... which in a weird way, I suppose it was!

June 9: Bebe won lots of fans with her permanent "thumbs up" at the final day of the Mind Body Spirit Festival, even while sleeping.

June 10: After a day trip to Geelong to visit Great Nana Mac (98 yo and still living independently) we were successful in finding a restaurant in South Yarra that my brother hadn't eaten at. Turned out to be a top-notch Melbourne establishment that he's always wanted to go to but was waiting for a special occasion. I'm so glad he considered us special enough ;-)

June 11: Here's something else I learned today on the flight home: even with an infant, don't assume the airlines will reserve a crib for you.

June 12: Poor bebe slept most of the day, even falling asleep in mid sentence.

June 13: Blaze expressed his frustration at being left behind by digging huge holes behind the wheels of the ute.

June 14: Took a walk up to the in-laws on the neighbouring farm. I mentioned how tricky it was maneuvering the pram through the farm gates so when it was time to leave Bill drove ahead and opened them all for me. While he was waiting for me to catch up, rather than sit and twiddle his thumbs he got busy collecting fire wood. Impressive!

Another wonderful week. I don't want to count the miles we've travelled -- from Melbourne to Geelong to visit Great Nana Mac, back to Melbourne for dinner at one of Melbourne's finest restaurants, back to Perth, then down to Margaret River -- but it's a lot!

This week I have learned:

* With enough guts, determination and duct tape, it is possible to eventually get an outdoor liquor license;
* Babies are never so portable as in their first few months;
* When deciding on a restaurant, go for the one that has fewer tables and no menu in the window;
* Clouds still look like marshmallows from above, even when you're an adult;
* Babies need all the time in the world to get over time-zone changes;
* Dogs need all the love in the world to make up for their owners going away;
* There is always a thousand things to be done on a farm.

ShangriLa I like your diary. Too bad more people don't use the blog this way.
