August 3 - 9: a week of "firsts"

2008.08.03
August 3: I was walking back to my car when this blue bumper sticker caught my eye. I nearly dropped my coffee with surprise and delight to see someone "wearing" my creation. As luck would have it, the owner of the car returned and agreed to have her photo taken for posterity.

August 4: It's a good husband that will massage his wife AND her sister.

August 5: Gavstar is on a mission to make his first words every morning, "how am I going to romance my hornbag today?" This morning when he went to make coffee for us, he returned with a rose from the garden instead. Ooooooooh, talk about melt!

August 6: I ordered in several dozen books in preparation for some expos and book readings I have coming up. Surprisingly, this batch of books came in 5mm skinnier and with yellow see-through paper. I'm so peeved that I won't have stock to sell at the expos now, but at the same time, feeling full of curiosity waiting to find out how this was "meant to be"...

August 7: Boy Wonderful, the Little Star and I drove MILES out of Perth to have a last supper with our American in-laws before their flight home. The drive lasted an extra 30 minutes than we expected, but we turned it into a fun thing, joking "oh we forgot to let Emergency Services know where we are because we're obviously missing persons right now," and, "darn it I forgot to pack the flares in case we got lost."

August 8: The Chinese capitalised on this fortuitous date (08/08/08) by holding the opening of the Olympic Games today. We did really well by leaving Perth by 2.50pm (as soon as school got out) with the intention of arriving at the farm in plenty of time to watch the opening ceremony. "Ha ha," said God as he struck Boy Wonderful down with such a migraine we ended up in hospital en-route. So the opening ceremony experience for us ended up being purely auditory via the radio.

August 9: Boy Wonderful's first day on the job - as kitchen bi-atch at the local Club. (By the way, ignore the sign "Adults only" at the top -- it has to be read in context)

.
This week I learned that it's never too late to have a week of "firsts"... To be specific, this week I...:

* ...got an incredible buzz to see my bumper sticker on someone's car!
* ...gained deeper insight into the indelible connection between twins.
* ...was reminded how easy it is to find romance every day in a marriage.
* ...found that no matter how long you've worked with a supplier, never assume that what you order is what you'll get!
* ...was reminded that it doesn't matter how far you have to drive to see loved ones, distance becomes immaterial when you see them
* ...laughed that because we made plans to watch the Olympic Games opening ceremony, God laughed and told us otherwise.
* ...went back in time to my first job, and welled with pride to see my Boy Wonderful turning up to his first job with the same gusto and enthusiasm as I'd had all those years ago.
