Nov 16 - 22: the Exorcism

2008.11.16
Nov 16: Happy birth day chicks, and well done mama hen

Nov 17: The Little Star wasn't interested in the chicks' first meal outside the coop -- she was only interested in where her next meal was coming from.

Nov 18: When Scott asked Boy Wonderful "how was your day?" BW's response was, "I played cricket, walked the dog, did an exorcism..."

Nov 19: guests who came to the old house signed this door instead of a guest book. This is the last thing we have to get out of the house before demolition I think.

Post-script. This photo is all we have left of our "guest door"... We forgot to salvage it.

Nov 20: We're more than half-way through NaNoWriMo, and even though I'm lagging dreadfully in the word count, I still "chair" the weekly write-ins. Blaze's job is to get 50,000 pats during the session, and today he came pretty close.

Nov 21: Boy Wonderful's team came first in the science competition thingy today... Semi-finals next week.

Nov 22: Gavstar is down south baby-sitting seven school-leavers who are camping at the house. So it was up to me to get up at some ungodly hour to get Boy Wonderful to his cricket match. I reckon I did well - the Little Star was cruisy for a couple of hours of the match before I had to take her home.

.
After a chick drought, our one remaining hen hatched eight chicks this week. Whereas normally I would have cheered at having eight more chicks, I learned that I have acclimatised to farm life when I commented "we'll be lucky if one makes to adult."

Meanwhile, back in Perth, we got a professional geomancer in to exorcise the old house. I was overwhelmed with sadness and nausea during the process. Roz said it was a little girl's spirit that crossed over, amongst others.

I also learned this week:

* An exorcism takes strong character and lots of salt;
* Just when you think you've salvaged everything, you haven't;
* When you've been set a 50,000 word target in 30 days, GET CRACKING FROM DAY ONE;
* Sports jocks can be nerds too (and still cool);
* Whoever invented cricket had a lot of time on their hands.
