June 23 - 27: Cold awakenings
2009.06.23
June 23: The Little Star and I arrived at Qantas in time to chill in the Qantas Club before our red-eye flight to Brisbane. I had a near death experience on the elevator going up to the Club when a lady let go of her bag and it came hurtling towards us. I had the baby strapped to my chest, a 15kg bag with a broken strap balanced in a dodgy Qantas stroller, and the whole ensemble perched on the escalator. When I saw the bag hurtling towards me I thought I was dead. I thought I'd be knocked off balance and sent flying to the bottom of the stairs. I also remember thinking, "oh well, if I die now on my way up to the Qantas Club, at least I'm half-way to heaven."

June 24: Brother Kevin took the day off work today, so we chilled out at the local kid-friendly cafe and began the acclimatisation process.

June 25: This is fast becoming a fun game to look forward to each evening... the kids start at one end of the house and then run full pelt at their daddy sitting on the couch. Hilarious.

June 26: Beauty, Little Star and I hung out for a while at the "Milkshake Shop" this afternoon. I'm in love with this cafe, which has a dedicated play area and menu for the littlies.

June 27: Came out of the Mind Body Spirit Festival (where I was speaking about my latest book, The Goddess DIET), to find ourselves in the middle of an Indian wedding parading through the showgrounds. The groom was supposed to be riding this horse, but he obviously didn't want a bar of it.

Life is never dull... after spending two nights in my own bed for a change, I'm off again, this time to Brisbane. The first thing I packed was my bathers, so I was naturally disappointed to arrive in Brisbane and find my brother's pool cover on. It was only a matter of minutes before I found out why - it was FREEZING! The saying goes that despite popular perception, Brisbane does have a winter... and I reckon I was there for all 10 days of it. Oh well, from all reports Perth copped even colder weather, so I can be thankful I missed out on that!
