In church, a butterfly and a huntsman... and some thoughts on equipment

2008.06.12
I just love the light in cathedrals!
I doubt that the 2mp Fuji would have recorded the colours half as well - but then, it's worth about $10 now, and I'm sure my Pentax k10d would have done better on the colour and dynamic range than the Fuji 5600 used here. But the 5600 has a leaf shutter, and is almost silent - just right for places like this.. unlike a reflex camera which would sound like a bomb going off in here.

This was hand held @ 1/13 second. The 5600 doesn't have IS, but is very well balanced.

I wrote to another photoblogger that megapickles don't really count that much in a camera... it's how you use it within the camera's limits. This was taken with a 5 year old 2mp Fuji Finepix 205s camera. It does great macros. The lens is very sharp, and is capable of spectacular 5x7 prints - but I wouldn't use it for fine details in landscapes.

Same camera as above... not as well focussed though... I was a bit more careful about approaching this guy within a few cm, and was not as careful with getting the focus spot on... too hairy for me!

The church photo was taken in Christchurch, New Zealand, the butterfly in the Melbourne zoo butterfly house (with a 2mp Fuji camera!) and a huntsman spider I found on our front door.. (also with a 2mp Fuji camera)
